Andrew Tidswell
Andrew Tidswell Director of International Professional Development
Andrew is currently Director of International Professional Development at Discovery Education. He is responsible for managing the implementation and delivery of all PD provided by Discovery Education outside of the UK and US.
This role includes building relationships with Partners, from individual school accounts to whole Government contracts, ensuring this work leads to successful progression for teachers and improves outcomes for students. He is also responsible for supporting teams of PD Specialists and content writers from the UK, US and overseas to ensure they deliver the highest quality Professional Development.
Prior to this he was a freelance consultant and trainer for 12 years, supporting teachers in schools around the UK and overseas, helping them to work effectively across a range of specialisms including: interactive technology, digital media, coding, STEM and Primary Maths. As an independent consultant, he built up relationships with a diverse range of individual schools and numerous education companies.
Between 1990 and 2004 he was a teacher and Senior Leader at three different schools in Leeds. His full-time teaching career included working as a PE specialist in Middle School and a Primary classroom teacher in 2 further schools. He was subject leader for Maths, History and PE in different schools and was ultimately a member of the Senior Leadership Team with particular responsibility for Maths and Key Stage 2.
Andrew is also Chair of Governors at a successful inner city 'Through School' in Leeds with an intake of approximately 1000 pupils aged from 4 to 18 from a very diverse local community, with over 60 languages being spoken in the school.
