Assessment for Learning

I worked in primary schools for over twenty years as a classteacher, senior leader and Deputy Headteacher. I taught across Key stages 1, 2 and 3 in UK and in Spain. During this time I developed a passion for science, art and design, improvised drama, creativity and developing initiatives for higher attaining children. I am now an Associate Professor in Learning and Teaching at the University of Hertfordshire where I am also Science Lead and Art Lead across the ITE programmes.
I recently completed my Masters in Science education at King’s College London and my research explored using drama as a formative assessment tool in primary science. I enjoy writing and, having written chapters focusing on ‘the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key stage 2’, ‘Mentoring Associate Teachers and Newly Qualified Teachers’ and ‘Creativity in Science’. My most recent publication is: ‘Science Meets English’. This book, written with Naomi Hiscock, includes a series of creative learning challenges to be covered in Science and English lessons, with a balanced emphasis placed upon both subjects.
