Michael Jonathan Reiss
Michael Reiss was brought up in London and read Natural Sciences at Cambridge. As an undergraduate he was fortunate enough to meet Jenny Chapman, to whom he has been married since 1982, and together they have written school and university ecology textbooks. Michael is Professor of Science Education at UCL Institute of Education, Visiting Professor at the Universities of Kiel, Leeds and York and the Royal Veterinary College, Honorary Fellow of the British Science Association and of the College of Teachers, Docent at the University of Helsinki, the past Director of the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology Project and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. He is also a Priest in the Church of England and President of the International Society for Science & Religion and of the International Association for Science and Religion in Schools. He travels widely and enjoys visiting museums and art galleries and reading fiction and non-fiction alike. His research and consultancy interests are in science education, bioethics and sex education and he also writes on the interface of science education and theology. He was admitted to the Salters' Company in 2004 by redemption and became a Court Assistant in 2014.
