Toby Osborne

Ferndown Upper School
Deputy Head of Science
Toby is currently the Deputy Head of Science at Ferndown Upper School, a STEM Specialist school in Dorset.
After graduating with a first class degree in molecular genetics from Sussex University, he has taught in four comprehensive schools, as well as leading two chemistry departments and post-16 G&T programmes.
Toby is passionate about using science education as a vector to improve social mobility. At his current school he is helping lead the implementation of separate science GCSEs for all students. The school is among one of the first non-selective schools in the country to do so.
He strives to improve the accessibility of science for students of any ability or background. Toby believes that by improving scientific literacy and skills in young people, we can nurture a generation better at critical thinking and problem solving. This would improve the ability of citizens to participate in discussions or debate surrounding societal issues that are affected by science.
