The University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG) aims to make a sustained positive impact on the outcomes of both formal and informal science education through high quality research that has an impact on policy and practice, the development and evaluation of research-informed curricula that illustrate the importance of science, and the training and support of practitioners.

Our curriculum development projects include Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST), which provides a large, online collection of FREE research-informed resources to support science teaching in secondary schools (age 11-16). The resources help teachers to test and consolidate students’ understanding of key concepts in science, to facilitate better progression. The resources have been developed from the best available research evidence on common misunderstandings in science, effective diagnostic questioning and formative assessment, constructivist approaches to building understanding, and effective sequencing of key concepts.
